  • I Love NYC

I've been to New York City many times which is a 5 1/2 hour drive from Montreal both for business and leisure, and it's one of the few cities in the world I really enjoyed visiting over and over again.

The street animation, Broadway, Manhattan, Battery Park, Canal Street, Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho, the Central Grand Station, Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Chrysler Building, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, the Trump Tower, the yellow cab taxis, there is just so many landmarks in one town.

And there can't be anything more postcard sight than approaching or leaving NYC from the Hudson river at night.
new york by the hudson at night

Drove down there with my partner last week for a project meeting and have noticed the impact of the current recession in the U.S. has also slowed down the usually hectic construction industry in New York City. Our project in upper West St. is one of the few constructions going on.

Noticeable difference also during the past decades is the changing faces in the construction industry. Not too long ago, architects, engineers and project managers have been dominated by mostly all white male professionals, today it is quite the contrary.

Present at the meeting were the Project Architect, a Hongkong born lady in her early 30's, the Project Manager, a Latin American lady, a civil engineer in her 30's, the General Contractor's engineer, a 40 something Pakistani gentleman, the building wall installation manager, an Afro American lad and ourselves, my partner of Italian roots and myself, well a Flip haha!

Also noticeable since the Bill Gates executive dress down revolution, the tieless shirt and jeans have replaced the suit and tie formality of the project meetings.

Times they are a changin' as Dylan have said,
    they have!

In 15 years, the White American will be the minority in the United States of America.

  • Angels on wheels..

Jack and Mike met St. Pete at the Pearly Gates.

St. Pete to Jack and Mike: "As you may not know, heaven is a pretty big place and you'd need wheels to fully explore and enjoy your stay here!"

St. Pete to Jack: "Have you ever cheated on your wife?"

    Jack: "Never"

St. Pete: " OK, here are the keys!"

    Jack, shocked: "OMG a Ferrari!"

St. Pete to Mike: "Have you ever cheated on your wife?"

    Mike: "Never!"

St. Pete: "Don't lie, I know!"

    Mike: "Okay then..once!"

St. Pete, now quite upset, then points a finger down to hell below: "Mike would you rather go down there?"

Mike: "Yes, 3 times I fooled around!"

St. Pete: "Here take the keys!"

Mike: "Oh, well this will get me around I guess!", then drove away with his Toyota Corrolla.

The next day, Jack and Mike met at the gas station. Mike had noticed Jack looked so down and sad.

Mike: "You should be laughing with joy with your Ferrari, what's wrong?"

    Jack: "I saw my wife..."

Mike: "The more you should be happy?"

Jack: "I passed by her this morning...

    she was on roller skates!"

    Mike: :(

  • Feliz Navidad in November

    chevy chase christmas-lights
    Daylight Saving Time

I just noticed my neighbour today putting up his Christmas lights outside and I asked him if isn`t it a bit too early to put the lights just yet and he told me it`s better now than when it gets too cold. It made sense I guess as Johnny came lately as I am, I always wait till the last minute when its 20 below and my fingers freeze in the railings.

I don`t mind Christmas lights but in my street of heavy Italian community, they rather do it in excess and in competition as to who`s got the tackiest decor outdoors. I mean I don`t think a fully lighted Santa Claus and his reindeers, the Three Kings and the Nativity Scene and blown up giant Snowman belong in the same landscape.

I`m a firm believer in simplicity is beauty and less is more and keep my lightings to minimum with few lights in the balcony railing, around the window and traditional christmas wreath at the door.

Oh well... thiese lights are getting me stoned haha! Christmas is here then, it`s time to Feliz...!

No please not just yet! 88|
