All war is shit; those cretins in power create conflict and then call in and use like pawns armed forces to fight their battles for them. They aught to be the ones forced in the arena to duke it out, not with violence but with intelligent dialogue. However, that would mean action by responsible accountable governments not war-mongering cabals in charge of peoples seemingly everywhere. They represent global corporate fascism, not democracies in any nations, anywhere. But for the people's own good mind. 
Although is name is not mentioned above, must say I'm with Rev Wright on this one Davij 
Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Yemen and other wars thereafter was the end of U.S. military might and a triumph for the Soviets. It was America's fault supporting unpopular dictators under the guise of democracy and communist fighters. In brief it was about control of strategic parts of the world between the two superpowers at the expense of millions of innocent lives and soldier "pawns" as you call them to die for politics and nothing to do with democracy!
