I've got a friend who just recently got divorced,
came from an ethnic background where tradition and religion a woman bows to a man, figuratively speaking.

So when he found her cheating on him, he could not believe it, his pride hurt, his culture shamed, he want to punish her. He wanted her to be shunned and shamed by her own family for what she has done. She was a beautiful woman beneath the veil. He still want her to stay but he will make sure her movements will be restricted and carefully watched.

I adviced him - to set her free.

There is an old proverb,
"Don't keep the bird in a cage, set her free, and if she's really yours - she will come back at your window cill." - I doubt it!
